Panzer Open Haus

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Charlotte has some very cool VW’s in the locale, from barndoor buses to world record setting bugs..

John Harper of DerCarolinaPanzers.com was very kind to open his doors for all, his collection of VW’s and others is something to behold.

IMG_7573The snowmobile is a 40hp driven vehicle and right next to it is the pig bus which was used at Carrowinds I believe, a sweet low mileage Scirocco, a Rabbit, a couple of early Mercedes being the rare water coolers in the collection.

IMG_7669The primo vehicle has to be the 23w barnddor deluxe showing its original paint mostly – reportedly running for the weekend open Haus. This is an extremely rare vehicle and a real treat to have it on show in Charlotte.

IMG_7637An open frame VW bug presumably for a dealer display would have looked stunning in its day, not that anyone dares to do the same today but VW were proud of their simplicity and form enough to show their cars bare and all.

We rebuilt the engine, flushed the gas tank, retrimmed interior with TMI covers, sewfine carpets, rebuilt the horns, painted the engine bay, a very very pretty car, all original underneath too.. WOW. Sold through the Samba May 05.

Interior

As returned from the trim shop. Excellent fit and finish although they were unable to use the long chrome on the outer hood. We also had the front and rear windows fitted with new rubbers and chrome trim. (more…)

Buildup

Friday, October 1st, 2004

We stripped off all the old material from the hood so it too could be powder coated. All the wood was amazingly in good condition – we think the hood had been refurbished at least once before and new wood used. We ordered the material for the new hood from convertible specialties CA. Excellent price and very knowledgeable. NOS rear lens and license plate lens. Found a period NC tag plate from 1962 – all legal so long as you carry the current tag in the car with you. (more…)
