Panzer Open Haus

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Charlotte has some very cool VW’s in the locale, from barndoor buses to world record setting bugs..

John Harper of DerCarolinaPanzers.com was very kind to open his doors for all, his collection of VW’s and others is something to behold.

IMG_7573The snowmobile is a 40hp driven vehicle and right next to it is the pig bus which was used at Carrowinds I believe, a sweet low mileage Scirocco, a Rabbit, a couple of early Mercedes being the rare water coolers in the collection.

IMG_7669The primo vehicle has to be the 23w barnddor deluxe showing its original paint mostly – reportedly running for the weekend open Haus. This is an extremely rare vehicle and a real treat to have it on show in Charlotte.

IMG_7637An open frame VW bug presumably for a dealer display would have looked stunning in its day, not that anyone dares to do the same today but VW were proud of their simplicity and form enough to show their cars bare and all.

Finishing Touches

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

We wanted to keep rust at bay and with the intention of driving it every day we chose to paint the entire underside in POR 15. This means we need a good surface to paint to, so after about 100 hours of scraping, washing, sanding etc we got to the finished state – should last a good while. (more…)

Running Gear

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

Anibal Chico www.steelbuggin.com built this 1776 long block with a new case, new heads, C25 cam for torque, with a deep sump and full flowed for oil filtering. We then added powder coated German doghouse tin, new Sachs clutch, powder coated intake manifold, and even tracked down a complete 38A (68-71 bus) generator – so we could run some extra music at some stage.
